The Davis™ Programmes were developed by Ron Davis, author of ‘The Gift of Dyslexia’ and are the most widely used dyslexia treatments in the world. Proven for over 20 years there are more than 400 licensed Davis Facilitators worldwide offering programmes in 40 countries and 30 languages.

Dyslexia BOP offers the following programmes:

–      Davis Dyslexia Correction® Programme

–      Davis™ Math Mastery Programme

–      Davis™ Attention Mastery Programme

–      Davis™ Reading Programme for Young Learners

Each programme follows a four step process:

1) Initial Consultation / Assessment

This is a free, no obligation meeting with Angi to determine whether an individual will benefit from the Davis™ programme, and which programme would be the most suitable to meet both, the needs and the goals of the individual. Please allow approx. 1 ½ hrs for this.

2) The Programme

The Davis™ programme generally consist of a 30 hour, one-on-one individually tailored course, usually delivered within a 10 day period over 6 days. It gives the student the tools to perceive information accurately, making it easier for them to see words, letters and numbers as a non-dyslexic would. It also addresses the behavioural challenges that sometimes come with the dyslexic thinking style.

All Davis™ programmes are drug free and – taking a positive approach – work with their strengths to overcome their learning difficulties, restore self-esteem and reach their full potential in the education system or workplace. For more detailed information and fees about each course please see the schedule below.

3) Support Training

During the programme, support training will be given to a family member, teacher or friend who will continue to support the individual with some exercises and the Davis Symbol Mastery™ to keep eliminating ‘trigger words’. It is also important that the student be allowed and expected to take charge of their own learning; training will be provided for the support person to guide them through this process.

4) Follow up Support

Included in each programme are up to three follow up sessions as needed, as well as unlimited email and phone support with the individual, support person, parents or educators.

Davis Dyslexia Correction® Programme

The solution for anyone over 8 years old who struggles with reading, (hand-) writing, letter confusion, spelling, comprehension, focus,  co-ordination (dyspraxia) and auditory challenges.

Ron Davis believes that dyslexia is a result of an inherent mental gift or talent. People who develop dyslexia think in pictures, rather than words; they are imaginative and creative; and they try to solve problems by looking at the whole picture, rather than working step-by-step. Davis Dyslexia Correction relies on using the mental talents that dyslexic people share to overcome the learning problems. To do this, students must follow a different approach to learning.
During Davis Orientation Counselling the student will gain the ability to recognize and therefore control the disorientation by using the Davis tools. Being able to ‘focus’ and seeing the symbols (letters, punctuation etc.) correctly, true learning can finally begin.

(from the Davis Dyslexia website)

Using the hands-on medium of clay the individual is able to create – and master – any confusions thus eliminating disorientation (loosing focus). The alphabet, punctuation, pronunciation, reading and (if needed) handwriting exercises are all part of the programme. The student will also begin the Davis Symbol Mastery™ to deal with the confusing non-picture words like: was, there, were, many etc. Because they are abstract words they are just ‘blank’ for picture thinkers. There are approx. 217 trigger words that most dyslexics have in common; training will be given to the student and the support person to continue with the Davis Symbol Mastery™ at home after the programme.

The tools and techniques learnt during the course will help the individual throughout their life and give them the skills to overcome their learning challenges, restore their self-esteem and reach their full potential.

The cost for the Davis Dyslexia Corrections® Programme is $ 2700.00 and includes the 30 hour one-on-one facilitation of the course, student kit, support person DVD and time with the support person to make sure that some of the exercises are continued after the programme, up to 3 follow up sessions, contact with the teacher (if wanted and practical) as well as unlimited phone and e-mail support.

Davis Math Mastery™

The solution for anyone over 8 years old who struggles with any area of Mathematics including reading numerals, counting, adding, subtracting, multiplying, dividing, place value and fractions, word problems, telling the time, using a calendar, sequencing and logic.

Davis Math Mastery® provides tools to correct problems learning math. These learning problems are sometimes called dyscalculia and can often accompany dyslexia and ADD symptoms.

The Davis approach goes to the root issues that cause some people to have problems understanding and learning math with traditional teaching methods. Visual-spatial thinkers are often confused by the words and symbols which describe math functions. When the foundation concepts for understanding all mathematics are mastered, learning math becomes easy.

Like Davis Dyslexia Correction®, the first step in Davis Math Mastery is to enable children and adults to control disorientation. Once students can be sure that their perceptions are accurate, they can resolve any confusion about math with methods that build upon their creative and imaginative strengths.

The length of a Davis Math Mastery program varies, depending on the needs of the individual.

(from the Davis Dyslexia website)

The Math programme is designed to build the foundation for on-going improvement. The Davis tools and techniques will provide the individual with life – long learning abilities.

For individuals with a number of learning challenges it might be recommended that they complete a Davis Dyslexia Corrections® programme or a Davis Attentions Mastery™ programme first, the best approach will be discussed at the initial consultation.

The cost for the Davis math Mastery™ programme starts from $ 2700.00, however it can incur additional costs when a combination of programmes is needed or a significant amount of additional time is required. Again this will be discussed at the initial consultation and assessment. As above it includes the 30 hour one-on-one facilitation of the course, student kit, support person DVD and time with the support person to make sure that some of the exercises are continued after the programme, up to 3 follow up sessions, contact with the teacher (if wanted and practical) as well as unlimited phone and e-mail support.

Davis Attention Mastery™ Programme

The solutions for anyone over 8 years old who struggles with focus, difficulties staying on task, sitting still, listening, maintaining positive relationships, tendency to excessive daydreaming (zoning out), impulsivity, behavioural challenges and difficulty with organising self and ‘order’.

This drug free approach helps those with ADD / ADHD to control their energy levels, focus and listen (and make sense and follow) instructions. It effectively addresses behavioural patterns which are negatively affecting their lives and relationships. Often ‘life concepts’ are missing or miss-understood (like sequence and consequence) so the individual is finding it impossible to connect their behaviour to a result and consequence (e.g. the individual is snatching the ball from a student in the playground and is send into time out – however the individual fails to see the connection and just thinks that everyone is mean and no-one likes him).

Again using clay and a hands-on positive approach the individual will master these life concepts and afterwards will be able to understand situations, apply them into daily life and make better behavioural choices.

Often ADD / ADHD is accompanied by other issues such as dyslexia, dyspraxia or difficulties with math. The best approach will be discussed during the initial consultation and assessment.

The cost for the Davis Attention Mastery™ programme starts from $ 2700.00, however it can incur additional costs when a combination of programmes is needed or a significant amount of additional time is required.

Davis Reading Programme for Young Learners™

This is an enhancement programme for children aged 5-8years of age that would benefit from gaining skills in regards to reading, writing and reaching (and staying) focus. This is not a dyslexia correction programme but will give the child lifelong skills to make learning more successful and develop reading fluency and comprehension.

The Davis® Reading Program for Young Learners is an individualized learning enhancement program with a licensed and trained Davis Facilitator. Its mission is to give children aged 5-7 the best possible start at the outset of their learning career. Its aims are:

  • to provide lifelong learning skills to younger children through a partnership between Facilitator, child and parent(s)
  • to give one or both of the child’s parents, or a support person, sufficient confidence and skill to continue working with the Davis Young Learner’s Kit after the program
  • to provide children with the conceptual skills needed to develop reading fluency and comprehension.

The Davis Reading Program for Young Learners provides important tools to beginning readers. Through the unique partnership philosophy of the program, parents or other family members gain the skills needed to provide the child with on-going quality support. Typically, the Facilitator will schedule 25-30 hours of time with the student; at least half or more of the program time will also include the parent or support person participating in helping the child with the new skills and techniques.
